Intelligence From Space: Improving Awareness
Aug. 29 | 2 PM ET

Effective warfighting requires processed signals intelligence to be available to decision makers in real-time. A decision maker is often the lowest level commander in tactical operations and therefore excess latency and a fractured intelligence picture is to be avoided. In reality, the latency between signals intelligence data collection, the correlation and harmonisation with an established and agreed intelligence picture and subsequent distribution to decision makers is not compatible with future tactical operations. As serious, extended communications links and distributed signals intelligence processing is leading to fractures in the intelligence picture. Diminishing skill levels in human analysis of raw signals intelligence is also of growing concern. Research is investigating a space-based intelligence solution with dense clusters of small satellites providing an intelligence network where tactical commanders are able to receive relevant and current intelligence from a number of parallel LEO satellites. Collection platforms, UAV-based, satellite, aircraft, submarine and land-based vehicle, to use edge computing with AI/machine-learning capability to process raw signals intelligence prior to up-loading to the space intelligence network. This network to use edge computing with AI/machine learning capability to harmonise and synchronise a tactical intelligence picture across the space network. Further edge computing distributes a relevant intelligence picture to tactical commanders. This Webinar focuses on the need for such an approach and introduces the technologies involved. The Webinar very much focuses on tomorrow’s World.

Decoding EMSO: Aligning Terminology for Unified Spectrum Operations

In this episode of From the Crow’s Nest, host Ken Miller is joined by returning guest Dustan Hellwig to tackle a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of electronic warfare: how the community – AOC members and stakeholders – discuss EMSO needs and effects within a unified mathematical context to consolidate the various and potentially conflicting uses of the spectrum.

Ken and Dustan explore the importance of aligning terminology with a commander’s intent, with Dustan highlighting the role of machine learning technologies in translating this intent into mission-essential tasks, thereby enhancing understanding at every level of operation. But Dustan doesn’t just stick to theory – he also shares practical advice on how the different stakeholders in the EMSO space can find common ground – at least in terms of terminology – to make communication within the community more seamless.
