FREE Industry Webinar from NI: Validation and Functional Testing with Radar Target Generators
Modern radar systems increasingly employ digital technology so that agile and dynamic modes of operation can bring new capabilities to operators. Designers seek to expand sensing capabilities that can operate in increasingly congested and contested electromagnetic battlespaces. In this webinar, we'll review some of these trends in defense radar and consider common approaches from component to full system-level tests.

Distributed, Collaborative, Autonomous EW
April 4 | 2 PM

As will be shown in this webinar, modern threat systems are difficult to deny and degrade within peer mission environments. There are many reasons for this difficulty and many methods to “attack” this problem set: one of which is using distributed, collaborative, autonomous EW systems of systems. Using existing, government-open tools, Mr. Hellwig will discuss methods and approaches for evaluating and effecting modern, complex spectrum battlespaces as well as methods and approaches for implementing “real world” distributed collaboration and autonomy to allow for the employment of hybrid manned and unmanned swarms across the physical and invisible battlespace domains.

Advancing Cognitive Warfare: Unveiling Neuromorphic Frontiers

In this episode of From the Crow’s Nest, host Ken Miller talks to author Dr. Joseph Guerci about the evolution and outlook for cognitive electronic warfare systems. Dr. Guerci is an internationally recognized leader in research and development of next generation sensor and cognitive systems and has over 30 years of experience in government, industry and academia, including several years with DARPA.

Ken asks Dr. Guerci about the relationship between artificial intelligence, deep learning and cognitive systems, as well as what “neuromorphic” chips are. The two explore the role and limitations of “digitally engineering” in electronic warfare training.

Chapter News

On March 22, Mountain-Western Regional Director Wayne Shaw met with members of the Querque Crows in Albuquerque, New Mexico, including Chapter President Jeff Schleher and Sameer Hemmady, who all served as judges for the 2024 Central New Mexico STEM Research Challenge. Lots of great young talent is coming up through the school system in Albuquerque. Jeff made a point to emphasize to the students that AOC was providing a scholarship to the top STEM project. Participating in this science fair is an annual tradition for the Querque Crows and their signature event.

On March 25, AOC Mountain-Western Regional Director Wayne Shaw visited with the Southwestern Crows at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). Pictured left to right are Program Manager Kurt Austin, Chapter President Andreas Schmidt, Wayne Shaw and Jorge Salinas. Jorge, a chapter member and a EE by training, served as an outstanding tour guide of the Electro-Magnetic Vulnerability Assessment Facility (EMVAF) at White Sands Missile Range – a truly underutilized national asset that can be used for more than just testing US Army platforms. Kurt added valuable programmatic insights to the EMVAF tour. Later, Andreas led Wayne on a tour of the WSMR "Pod Shop" examining the build-up and maintenance of several high-end electronic attack (EA) pods used in testing at the WSMR. Wayne also had a chance to pitch the value of AOC membership to several future Young Crows assembled at the WSMR Pod Shop.
