AOC Returns to Hampton Roads

After an absence of several years, the Hampton Roads area has a local chapter. The Coastal Virginia chapter was recently established to provide support for all members of the Electro Magnetic Spectrum Operation (EMSO) community living or working in the area.

Coastal Virginia Chapter Co-Sponsors Cognitive EW Seminar

On Feb. 13 the Coastal Virginia Chapter, working with Rhode & Schwarz, coordinated with the Lockheed Martin Lighthouse in Suffolk, VA to bring Dr. Karen Haigh to a daylong seminar on her work on Cognitive EW and the background of the benefits of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning in research and in Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations. The event brought together more than 60 Military EMSO professionals, industry professionals and representatives from local universities. The successful event represented the chapter’s desire to educate, provide a platform for professional networking, and advocate for local EMSO professionals.

48th Dixie Crow Symposium
March 24-27

The 2024 theme is “Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) as a Maneuver Space - Achieving Dominance in the EMS through Speed, Innovation and DATA”. Papers are being solicited on topics related to new technologies, open architectures, EMS data (needs and/or CONOPS), software development pipelines, innovative approaches to validation and release processes and novel approaches to using or integrating existing technologies that will allow rapid acquisition and fielding.

Industry News

There are varying opinions on the role of fixed price contracts through the department of defense and industry, but most fall somewhere on the spectrum between ideal or overused, useful or uncontrolled. We need to rethink how we apply this mechanisms and whether fixed price is even an appropriate contract vehicle for defense procurement today. (JED)

Additional US aid was airdropped into Gaza on Tuesday amid a deepening humanitarian crisis, US Central Command said. This comes in the wake of an initial US military aircraft airdrop, in coordination with the Royal Jordanian Air Force, over the weekend. Tuesday's operation was also conducted by the US and Jordan. Ukraine’s military on Tuesday claimed another successful attack on a Russian warship, marking the latest in a string of naval defeats for Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet that Kyiv says has reduced its numbers by more than a third since the start of the war. (BBC)
