Collaborative EW Symposium 2023
March 14-16, 2023 | Pt. Mugu, CA

Evaluating Current EW Innovation in Context of Current Real World Conflicts

The war in Ukraine has identified the relevance of collaborative EW in support of rapid unfolding operations, with rapid adaptation and innovation contributing to the fight. What does this conflict teach us about what to do and what not to do in the spectrum? Who else will learn these lessons and to what result?”

The 50th year of the Collaborative EW Symposium at Pt. Mugu will provide a venue to disseminate current research in the fields of collaborative EW with an emphasis on innovation in collaborative EW. Prominent leaders, contributors and representatives from the United States and Australian military, government, academia and industry will come together to address emerging technologies required to address current dynamic operations.

In the Flat Field: Did Russian Army Electronic Warfare Underperform in Ukraine?
Dec. 15 | 2–3 p.m. EDT

In the Flat Field: Did Russian Army Electronic Warfare underperform in Ukraine? Since the Russian government began to overhaul its military early last decade, fears in NATO and allied nations have deepened over the efficacy of its army's electronic warfare systems.

New capabilities have been deployed and supported previous Russian military adventures in Georgia, Ukraine and Syria with seemingly great effect. The world's media has shared photographs of fearsome looking equipment deployed in rural farmland.

This time, however, things seem different. The army's EW capabilities appear conspicuous by their absence since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24. While the force has performed electronic warfare it does not seem to have been anywhere near as ferocious as anticipated. Moreover, the Russian Army has failed to win and sustain electromagnetic supremacy.

This webinar will look at the Russian Army's war in the electromagnetic spectrum. It will draw tentative conclusions as to why the force's EW capabilities may have underperformed. It examines the resulting implications for NATO and allied nations.

During AOC 2022 in Washington, DC (Oct. 25-27), the From the Crows’ Nest podcast was onsite to record daily episodes covering a range of topics related to concept of the “Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) Playbook.” I had the pleasure of sitting down with John Knowles, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Electromagnetic Dominance (JED), Mr. David Tremper, Director of EW in the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment and new AOC International Region I Director Eric Bamford. Read the highlights from those conversations.
