The AOC STEM Student of the Year Scholarship
AOC provides scholarships to students currently in their sophomore or junior year of college. Each year, one male and one female student studying engineering or engineering technology and interested in working in the aerospace and defense industry is awarded a scholarship of $12,500 each. These scholarships are funded by a generous donation from Raytheon Intelligence & Space funds these scholarships. Learn more.

Tactical ESM
Feb 24 | 2-3 p.m. EST

This webinar is intended for an audience that wants to gain additional knowledge about tactical electronic support measures (ESM) technology and procedures. We will discuss Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) including its two components Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and Communications Intelligence (COMINT). We will present applications of ELINT. We’ll discuss SIGINT platforms including aircraft, spacecraft, and ships. The ESM search challenge along with the probability of intercept will be examined. Typical emitter characteristics that ESM system can measure for pulse radar will be enumerated. We will discuss the use of ESM against low probability of intercept signals. The final major topic is passive emitter location techniques specifically direction of arrival measurement approaches.

Global Security Panel Discussion
In this episode, host Ken Miller shares with the listeners a special discussion that took place at AOC 2021, the 58th Annual AOC International Symposium & Convention. The discussion covered the rise of the Taliban, Global Security, and Counterterrorism 20 years after the beginning of Afghanistan and Iraq. EMSO is central to combat operations across all warfighting domains and is quickly becoming the backbone of Global Security. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Douglas Ollivant, Senior National Security Studies Fellow at the New America Foundation and Managing Partner at Mantid International. The panel also included: Ambassador Douglas Lute, former United States Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s standing political body, Mr. Mark Kimmitt, former Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs under President George W. Bush, and Mr. Peter Bergen, journalist, documentary producer, Vice President for Global Studies & Fellow at New America, and CNN national security analyst.

Oracle this week announced it can now handle some of the Department of Defense’s most sensitive data on one of its platforms, extending the cloud giant’s reach in the military sphere. (C4ISRNet)

  

Self-driving cars are the buzzing news of the future of automobiles, but the Army has a bigger problem – getting tactical vehicles to drive over rough terrain autonomously. To get after that challenge a Pentagon-driven “innovation network” held a hackathon Thursday that laid out the obstacles to getting autonomous vehicles off-road and doled out cash prizes of $15,000 each to help solve the puzzle.
