April 13 - 29, 2020 | Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays | 13:00-16:00 PM EDT (17:00 – 20:00 UTC) A new generation of threats has created a significant number of challenges to Electronic Warfare equipment and tactics. We simply cannot continue doing things the way we have been doing them, with significant success, for decades. This is a practical, hands-on course which covers Spectrum Warfare and current EW approaches, and moves on to discuss the new equipment capabilities and Tactics that are required to meet the new threat challenges. The course is intended for technical or marketing professionals who are new to EW or are concerned with the changes in the threat environment that impact development or operational activities. All of the background math is fully explained in the course. This course will be provided completely online. Register here! April 9, 14:00 - 15:00 EDT (18:00 - 19:00 UTC) This presentation provides an overview of the broad range of alternatives in satisfying missile requirements such as cost, performance, risk, and launch platform integration. The methods presented are generally physics-based, to provide insight into the primary driving parameters. Typical values of missile parameters and the characteristics of current operational missiles are discussed, as well as the enabling subsystems and technologies for missiles and the current/projected state-of-the-art. Videos are presented to illustrate missile development tests and facilities and missile performance.
EW Against a New Generation of Threats EW Modeling and Simulation Missile Design, Development, and System Engineering Machine Learning for EW April 23, 14:00 - 15:00 EDT (18:00 - 19:00 UTC) Most radars, such as surveillance and target tracking radars, have to contend with very capable and advanced threats on today’s battlefields. To survive to these countermeasures and accomplish their missions, radars have to hide their emissions from hostile receivers. For this purpose, and to mask their presence, LPI radars use pulse compression techniques not only to improve range detection, resolution, and to become furtive but also to resist mismatched jamming waveforms. The webinar will start with some basic concepts of power management of LPI radars followed by types of pulse compression. The next step will be some considerations about processing gain, the matched filter, and an example of how these techniques can improve range detection and resolution based on linear frequency modulation. Finally, some technology trends related to pulse compression will be discussed. In light of the new business landscape shaped by COVID-19 and the inability to meet in-person, the AOC is launching a new format to continue supporting the mission of “Advancing Electromagnetic Warfare TOGETHER” while offering business continuity planning and engagement between industry, government and military. The Virtual EMS Summit will have sessions that focus on Collaborative EW, EW Capability Gaps & Enabling Technologies, and other EW related topics. All material for the digital conference will be Unclassified Distro A. Registration will open April 20 and will be free for all attendees. At this time, the AOC has postponed some of our upcoming events due to the ongoing threat of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors and staff is of paramount importance. For more information on event updates and the AOC’s response, click here.
A fundamental part of the AOC's mission is investing in the next generation of Crows. One of the most significant ways we do this is by providing the AOC/Raytheon Scholarship to sophomore and junior year college students. We provide two scholarships annually, each in the amount of $12,500, to students studying in the fields of engineering or engineering technology. These scholarships are funded by a generous donation from Raytheon. Do you have a child, sibling, cousin, neighbor or friend studying in these fields? Encourage them to apply! Applicants must be Sophomores or Juniors in the 2020-2021 school year. Tell them not to wait, submissions are due by Thursday, April 30, 2020. Click here for a list of submission requirements and to apply! A Comprehensive Review of Iranian Surface-to-Air Missile Developments This conference aims to provide a comprehensive review of the latest developments regarding Iranian surface-to-air missile threat systems, including capabilities, concepts of operation and events. Attendance at this conference is appropriate for those involved in the design, development, testing, evaluation and employment of electronic warfare systems, techniques and tactics for protection of U.S. and allied fixed and rotary wing aircraft against air defense threats. Complex Electromagnetic Warfare and the Multi Domain Battle **AOC EW Europe, originally scheduled to take place on 16-18 June, will now be held at Exhibition Centre Liverpool on 16-18 November 2020. This decision has been made following consultation with key stakeholders, with the agreement that a new dateline would be beneficial to all participants. View the full statement here. The 25th AOC EW Europe event in Liverpool will bring together world-leading experts from the military, government, academia and industry. Delegates will progress their understanding of the issues, technology and capabilities that underpin their national Electronic Warfare abilities and allow them to enhance their capabilities both nationally and in international collaborative defence. The Multi Domain Battlefield (MDB) includes the Electro-magnetic and Information Domains (including cyber operations), as well as the Land, Maritime, Air and Space Domains. The MDB underpins and enables every decision, communication and navigation system as well as defensive and offensive actions. Spectrum management capabilities are vital to all of warfare and especially manoeuvre warfare – we all know that without spectrum dominance the war is lost before it is begun. New and current threat systems and strategies for defeating them will be considered alongside the technological developments most likely to influence the complex electromagnetic warfare of the future. Alongside two technical conference streams, the event features an exhibition area for specialist suppliers to showcase their technologies, products and services. Don't miss this on-site Professional Development Course! Intermediate Electronic Warfare The intended audience for this course includes Electronic Warfare (EW) professionals, including engineers, business development staff, and managers, looking to expand their general knowledge of the field. No prior experience in EW is required, but some background in EW will be helpful. Register for the course here ! AOC is opening a call for papers for a special session at the upcoming Military Sensing Symposia titled “EW Systems, Technologies, and Applications.” Papers should be focusing on how a layered and integrated EW Support architecture supports intelligence, spectrum management, and operational targeting objectives to include cyberspace operations. We are interested in papers that discuss innovative approaches to ES/EA, EO/IR systems, current and emerging service programs, spectrum management tools and applications, and links into the operational mission command systems. Papers discussing sensors that enable autonomous operation of platform ES or EA, conduct refined geo location, advancements that improve data quality or SWaP requirements, options for transporting data, and policy considerations for EW and CO are of particular interest. Paper submissions are due Friday, April 10. For more information on submitting and presenting at this event please contact Shelley Frost – Frost@crows.org.
Lasers, interceptor missiles and electronic warfare are all fast-growing potential answers to a seemingly unstoppable increase in enemy drone attack technologies. Given the rapid pace of technological advancement, and the seemingly ubiquitous availability of drone technologies, the U.S. military is moving as quickly as it can to keep pace -- and stay in front of possible drone swarm attacks, close in drone-fired weapons and even instances wherein drones themselves become explosives. (The National Interest) Concerns are growing about warfighters’ ability to communicate mission-critical information beyond line-of-sight in conflicts with peer and near-peer adversaries. Just in time, a new generation of highly capable high frequency radios is emerging as a viable solution when satellite communications are denied or unavailable. (Signal Magazine) Careers

Dixie Crow Members in attendance were: Lynwood and Betsy Moore, Ken Cirilli and Lisa Frugé-Cirilli, Ron Herpst, Debbie Koenig, Tom Miller, Mark and Martha Leslein, Scott Wolf, Karen Brigance and Richard Glessner, Bob Thrower and his son Shaine Thrower. Pooler Elementary School Career Day Ken Cirilli, AFSOC Det 1 492 SOW and Lifetime AOC Member, volunteered to talk to 5th grade students about the importance of software programming in CMDS (Countermeasure Defensive Systems) at Pooler Elementary’s Career Day on 27 Feb 2020. Videos of various weapon systems dispensing were shared via YouTube during each discussion. The students had excellent questions and were very interested in how/when countermeasures were used. In February, the Granite State Roost held their curling event at Nashua Country Club. Almost 20 attendees came out to enjoy the ice. We began with instruction on the uses of each type of “shoe.” One shoe is used to slide on the ice; the other shoe is to prevent slipping on the ice. Those used for sliding made the ice slippier than when on ice skates! We all learned the techniques for “throwing” the stone, sweeping and scoring. Industry News
