A fundamental part of the AOC's mission is investing in the next generation of Crows. One of the most significant ways we do this is by providing the AOC/Raytheon Scholarship to sophomore and junior year college students. We provide two scholarships annually, each in the amount of $12,500, to students studying in the fields of engineering or engineering technology. These scholarships are funded by a generous donation from Raytheon.

Do you have a child, sibling, cousin, neighbor or friend studying in these fields? Encourage them to apply! Applicants must be Sophomores or Juniors in the 2020-2021 school year. Tell them not to wait, submissions are due by March 31, 2020. Click here for a list of submission requirements and to apply!

Complex Electromagnetic Warfare and the Multi Domain Battle

The 25th AOC EW Europe event in Liverpool will bring together world-leading experts from the military, government, academia and industry. Delegates will progress their understanding of the issues, technology and capabilities that underpin their national Electronic Warfare abilities and allow them to enhance their capabilities both nationally and in international collaborative defence.

The Multi Domain Battlefield (MDB) includes the Electro-magnetic and Information Domains (including cyber operations), as well as the Land, Maritime, Air and Space Domains. The MDB underpins and enables every decision, communication and navigation system as well as defensive and offensive actions. Spectrum management capabilities are vital to all of warfare and especially manoeuvre warfare – we all know that without spectrum dominance the war is lost before it is begun.  New and current threat systems and strategies for defeating them will be considered alongside the technological developments most likely to influence the complex electromagnetic warfare of the future.

Alongside two technical conference streams, the event features an exhibition area for specialist suppliers to showcase their technologies, products and services.

Don't miss this on-site Professional Development Course!

AOC is opening a call for papers for a special session at the upcoming Military Sensing Symposia titled “EW Systems, Technologies, and Applications.” Papers should be focusing on how a layered and integrated EW Support architecture supports intelligence, spectrum management, and operational targeting objectives to include cyberspace operations. We are interested in papers that discuss innovative approaches to ES/EA, EO/IR systems, current and emerging service programs, spectrum management tools and applications, and links into the operational mission command systems. Papers discussing sensors that enable autonomous operation of platform ES or EA, conduct refined geo location, advancements that improve data quality or SWaP requirements, options for transporting data, and policy considerations for EW and CO are of particular interest.

For more information on submitting and presenting at this event please contact Shelley Frost – Frost@crows.org.

The sixth edition of the popular International Conference on EW in India, EWCI 2020, organized by the India Chapter of Association of Old Crows and held during 17-20 February, 2020 in Bangalore, concluded in a grand and memorable fashion. The three-day conference, one-day pre-conference tutorials and accompanying indoor exhibition of state-of-the-art EW products, which were actively supported by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Government of India and Defence Public Sector Unit - Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), are a big success both technically and commercially. The event, designed with the idea of providing a platform for international collaborations and sharing the latest developments in the field of Electronic Warfare and Information Operations (EW/IO), with a theme “EW: Collaborate for Success,” has lived up to expectations and has been of immense use to participants.

Dedicated Old Crow and Senior Convention Volunteer Jim Talley has passed. Jim was a great man who dedicated his life to the safety of America’s warriors in war and peace. He was a member of the Association of Old Crows since joining in 1972. At first, it was to understand the complexities of his duties as a Naval Officer and later to enhance his work in highly classified electronic warfare (EW) research and development at the US Naval Research Labs (NRL). Like so many others working on classified projects, the scope of his many contributions to the field of EW cannot be published.

Upon retiring, he was determined to continue his work by consulting and volunteering with the Old Crow’s Capitol Club. He volunteered for the last decade to attend, provide guidance and support the annual International Symposium and Convention in Washington, DC. Jim proudly directed specific activities while behind the scenes, discussing technical matters with briefers and participants. His inputs would add clarity and a richness to those presentations that otherwise would not have been had.

Jim Talley was truly an Old Crow’s Old Crow. His many contributions to the Capitol Club and to the men and women of the armed forces may never be fully known. But Jim Talley’s true dedication to the craft of electronic warfare, the Association of Old Crows and to the Capitol Club will be greatly missed.

James Talley’s beloved wife of 56 years has provided Jim’s obituary below:

The Whidbey Roost Chapter presents the VAQ-135 with the AOC Outstanding Navy-Air Unit Award
