Like other nations, the UK MOD has recently concluded a classified Electromagnetic Environment (EME) review and is already implementing far-reaching changes following on from NATO’s EW transformation concept of 2007. Both recognize the EME as a vital physical war fighting maneuver space. AOC EW Edinburgh will discuss the future of electromagnetic operations and capabilities such as EW, C4ISR and SIGINT. The armed forces of many countries are changing in response to the move from decade-long counter-insurgency to more demanding and less certain contingency operations played out in the light of resources constraints, complexity and none more so than those engaged in EW and related electromagnetic operations (EMO).

The AOC is soliciting original unclassified English language papers for the Edinburgh conference from international leaders, military personnel, subject matter experts and leading thinkers from the military, S&T community, academia and industry. NOMINATE CANDIDATES FOR THE AOC BOARD: 2014 Annual Election Nominations Due March 1
Nominations for the 2014 AOC Annual Election are currently being accepted. Help determine the future of the AOC by nominating yourself or your colleagues to serve on the board.
The 2014 election slate will include the position of President-Elect, who will serve as Vice President in 2015 and as President in 2016. The AOC President appoints the association’s Secretary and Treasurer, presides over the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and appoints committee chairs. The President is also the AOC’s primary spokesperson, visiting AOC chapters across the world and meeting with leaders in the Electronic Warfare community.
The 2014 election slate will also include three At Large Director positions. At Large Directors serve a three-year term. In addition, three Regional Directors will be elected for three-year terms from the Southern, Mountain-West and North-Eastern regions.
Nomination packets must be received at AOC headquarters by close-of-business on March 1. If you wish to nominate more than one person, please duplicate the form. Nomination Forms are available on the AOC website at www.crows.org or by contacting Glorianne O’Neilin at oneilin@crows.org.

In this 45-60 minute presentation, the basic functionality of an antenna is explained. Starting with Hertz's antenna model and a short introduction to the fundamentals of wave propagation, the important general characteristics of an antenna and its associated parameters (e.g. antenna gain, radiation pattern, bandwidth or VSWR) are explained.
A more detailed explanation of the functionality of some selected antenna types (e.g. dipole or monopole) will also be given.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: 6th Annual EW Capability Gaps & Enabling Technologies Operational & Technical Information Exchange, May 20-23, Crane, IN
The overall goal of the event is to provide a forum for EW professionals from the military, government, industry and academic fields to discuss issues related to the requirements of EW programs, platforms and operations. This capstone event will focus on the identified gaps and technologies the services require to ensure EW maintains freedom of maneuver through the Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) in support of achieving commanders' objectives. The AOC India Chapter has announced EWCI 2014, the Third Annual International EW Conference in Bangalore, India. This conference, now scheduled for February 17-20, 2014, follows the other two successful events and is supported by the Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDO), Government of India and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bangalore. The conference will address the technical and commercial needs of operational users, planners, developers, procurers, testers and trainers of the latest EW technologies and systems. FREE EW AND ISR BASICS: Short Course Offered by Dixie Crow Chapter, February 18-19
The Dixie Crow chapter of the Association of Old Crows is sponsoring an EW and an ISR Basics Short Course at the Scott Theater, Museum of Aviation on February 18-19, 2014. Courses will be taught by personnel from the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) at NO CHARGE. Both courses will be UNCLASSIFED; however, the ISR course will require CAC cards for entry from government personnel. Industry/academia partners must RSVP to verify U.S. Citizenship.

These basic-level courses are geared to new engineers, logistics management personnel and as a refresher for someone working in ISR and/or EW. The course is open to personnel at Robins AFB, Middle Georgia Industry Partners, other government personnel and AOC members.
Dixie Crow members will be guaranteed a seat.

Default will be a reservation for both days, but if you definitely only plan on attending just one, please indicate that. EW COURSES AT PENSACOLA NAS: Dates Available Through August for Introduction to EW and EW Coordinator Course
ELECTRONIC WARFARE COORDINATOR COURSE (EWCC)
Duration: 10 Days (2 Weeks)
Class 1403: April 7-18, 2014
Class 1404: July 14-25, 2014
Description: Qualifies electronic warfare officers to perform the duties and responsibilities of an electronic warfare coordinator (advises the combatant commander and battle staff on electronic warfare (EW) situations; makes recommendations on the use of EW assets). Training includes capabilities, limitations, and employment doctrine of hostile and friendly air defense assets; hostile and friendly EW asset employment; Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS); and information warfare. The course contains a graduate level presentation and one course exercise that students must perform to complete the course.
Prerequisites: Students must have a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS/SCI) clearance and be indoctrinated for SI/TK before entering class. Classes will include Special Access material and students will be required to submit current and accurate SF86 documentation for adjudication 60 days prior to class start date. Students will be officers (O-3 to O-6) or select NCOs (E-5 minimum). Army students must be graduates of either 29A/290A/29E training at Ft. Sill, OK. Seat priority is based on duty assignment.

Description: IEW introduces basic electronic warfare (EW) concepts to include science, doctrine and application. Graduates will be familiar with the three pillars of EW: Electronic Support, Electronic Protect and Electronic Attack. Additionally, graduates will be instructed on the capabilities of a variety of air, space and ground EW platforms. IEW is ideal for pilots of EW aircraft, Intel officers and enlisted, acquisitions and testing professionals.
Prerequisites: IEW is open to all officers, enlisted and DoD civilians. Students must have a Secret before entering class. Clearances will be verified via JPAS prior to class. Attendees do not need to submit a visit request. Graduates of IEW are eligible to attend the Electronic Warfare Coordinators Course (S-V8E-S).
