Take advantage of this two-day course, prior to the 2011 InfowarCon Cyber conference at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, MD. This survey course will discuss fundamental characteristics of electromagnetic energy, EW targeting principles, wireless network technology and standards, distinctions between the EMS and Cyberspace, directed energy, and the convergence of EA and Cyber attack effects. This great new course is taught by AOC member Lynn Berg. Berg is a retired USAF Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) who currently works in the areas of Electronic Warfare education and training. He has military experience in self-protection EW in B-52s and support Electronic Attack with EC-130 Compass Call, and he was Assistant Director of Operations and an instructor at the Air Force’s Electronic Warfare Schoolhouse. He served as the Education and Training Branch Chief at the Joint Electronic Warfare Center (JEWC) in San Antonio.

As the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks nears, the AOC would like to capture your stories for posterity. Where were you on 9/11/2001? How were you affected? How did the tragic events of that day change the landscape for EW and global defense? Was that day so profound that you were compelled to enter the services after the attacks? Help educate tomorrow's warriors and salute the sacrifices of our service members that ensure our freedom.

We also will be collecting samples and building a special eCrow to share community-wide. If you have any questions on sharing, please contact Norm Balchunas at Balchunas@crows.org. Thank you for sharing this with your fellow patriots.

JOIN EXPERT DR. RICHARD WILEY for ELINT and Modern Signals Course, September 20-23 in Alexandria, VA
Learn about current methods, future problems and possible solutions to ELINT challenges. This course focuses on signal interception, signal processing and signal analysis – especially as applied to modern radar signals. Attendees will learn first-hand about ELINT by working exercises designed to bring out the practical aspects of the theories presented. The course uses an ELINT book written by the instructor, Richard G. Wiley, Ph.D., as well as additional material. Dr. Wiley has been an instructor in George Washington University’s Continuing Education program, for RAS, Inc., ATI, Inc., and for the Association of Old Crows (AOC).

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) is the formalized application of modeling to support system requirements, design, analysis, verification and validation activities beginning in the conceptual design phase and continuing throughout development and later life cycles. Systems engineering and MBSE are employed wherever the solution to be designed is a complex system. This course is a heavy-duty engineering treatise designed for the next generation of EW professionals, who will need to be fluent in MBSE. It is taught by Dr. John Borky, who has more than 40 years in technical and leadership positions in electronic technology, avionics systems, and architecture and engineering for information-enabled systems and enterprises. Dr. Borky is a leader in the development and application of MBSE and has instructed courses on the subject at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

INDUSTRY NEWS: Chinese State Media Reveals PLA's Cyber Attack Efforts
China's state-run broadcaster, CCTV, may have proven that the Chinese regime engages in Cyber warfare. The station aired a program in July that appears to show that the regime's military is actively involved in attacking dissident websites hosted overseas.

Boeing Satellite Systems, Inc. (El Segundo, CA) is being awarded an $8,895,000 fixed-price contract modification to authorize Boeing to retrofit the Block II space vehicles with RF bypass out-of-band cascading filter solutions.

Northrop Grumman Corp. (San Diego, CA) is being awarded a $35,595,116 modification to a previously awarded cost-plus-fixed-fee contract (N00019-10-C-0018) to exercise an option for operations and maintenance services in support of U.S. Navy Global Hawk Maritime Demonstration.

Abacus Technology Corp. (Chevy Chase, MD) is being awarded a $8,756,706 firm-fixed-price contract for contractor engineering and technical support services for the Royal Saudi Air Force Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence System sites and air bases.

Science Applications International Corp., Inc., (McLean, VA) was awarded a $222,000,000 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract.  The award will provide for the efforts in developing the common virtual environment that facilitates fair fight interoperability for virtual system and non-system training aids, simulators and simulations.
