Workshop
– Accelerating the On-ramps for the Cyber Workforce
Facilitated by the AOC- Patriot Roost, the AFCEA, Lexington-Concord Chapter, Elevate Technology Solutions and MITRE.
August 17, 2016 | 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
AOC Patriot Roost, AFCEA Lexington-Concord chapter, MITRE and Elevate Technology will facilitate the Workshop on August 17, 2016 at Waxy O’Connors. We have an acute shortage of skilled personnel in government and defense-related industry for current and future cyber challenges. Current on-ramps fail to educate, recruit and prepare the future workforce of cyber tech savvy professionals. The Workshop is an unparalleled opportunity to hear innovators radically address new integrated processes to motivate and prepare our non-uniformed workforce through three separate lenses: government, industry, and academia. Each panel will address:
- Its requirements and processes
- Current shortfalls (capability, experience,
knowledge and number of personnel)
- Projected need
- Transformation
- Connecting islands (STEM, internships etc.) through managed apprentice programs
- On-ramps for new talent
- Diversity
- Continuing education baked in
- Culture – explicit focus for desired end state
14 distinguished speakers on three panels
- Government – led by Joel Rodriguez and Adam Fruedberg; panel includes Mr. Miller, Dr. Rudolph and a very engaged PM
- Industry – led by Bud Vazquez; panel includes Raytheon, Mercury Systems, Elevate Technology Solutions
- Academia – led by Matt McSwain; panel includes Middlesex Community College, MIT, UMass Lowell and WPI
Goal – enable AFLCMC and the surrounding community as thought leaders in addressing this national challenge. As stated by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, May 11, 2016, announcing the new DIUx in Boston:
"And another way we’re investing in innovation is through
people. I call it on-ramps and off-ramps for technical talent to flow between
DOD and the tech sector in both directions. That way, more of America’s
brightest minds can contribute to our mission of national defense. And our
outstanding military and civilian leaders and technologists across the DOD and
in the innovative defense industry that supports us already, will themselves be
able to interact with, learn from and explore new ways to innovate with
innovative ecosystems like this one."
